We hope you enjoy our shows and love the music as much as we do. Any female who would like to come sing with us is welcome on Thursday evenings from 6:30 – 8:30 at New Hope Church. We would love to have you try us out. Feel free to talk to any of us for more information.
Early in 2016, Patti Murphy and Becky McDuffee put their heads together and came up with a plan to create a new Sweet Adelines International chorus in Charleston, IL. Both women were current members of the Toast of Champaign Chorus and had been members of other Sweet Adelines choruses over the years. They believed that the East Central Illinois area was ripe for such an acapella singing group where they could share their love of singing barbershop harmony with others in the region. Otterbein United Methodist Church graciously offered to host our rehearsals, plans were made, and East Central Harmony Chorus was born. Our first rehearsal was held on June 9, 2016 at Otterbein United Methodist Church.
Several women attended. Voices were tested, vocal parts were assigned, and a few simple tags and songs were sung. For some, that was all it took to get hooked on the music and they began bringing guests along to check it out for themselves. Over the past year we have learned several songs, performed at local churches, the Youth in Harmony festival, nursing homes, and other public venues. We have hosted guest nights and held events in which women from both the Toast of Champaign and Danville choruses participated.
On September 15, 2017, we were notified by the Sweet Adelines International organization that we were granted official membership.
